Brunch at Birch @ DC Mall

Image
Follow my food account @fixingcravings on IG for daily food reviews!   Brunch is my favourite meal of the day and I knew that I have to make another trip to Birch to try their brunch menu after the amazing dinner that I had last month. [click here for the dinner menu review] Birch is now my favourite eatery in KL. Everything from the interior, ambience, and most importantly the food always makes me want to return again!   Birch Benedict [RM26] that consists of spicy pulled chicken, barbecue sauce, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce on toasted sourdough with salad on the side. From my observance, it's a dish that did not fail to appear on every table during the brunch hours and I can definitely tell why. If you never thought that barbecue sauce and hollandaise sauce can go well together, Birch will proof you wrong!  Watch me take my first bite + reaction here [20:29]   This was lip smacking good and easily one of the best egg benedict I had so far! The meat were really s

Breakfast at Paul Bakery @ Pavillion KL

Image
Follow my new food account @fixingcravings on IG for more daily food reviews! A French chain of bakery/cafe, Paul Bakery is no stranger to all those pastries lovers out there! I've lost count of the number of times I've walked pass it, staring at those yummy desserts and pastries. I was very excited when my uncle wanted to have breakfast there last week. Paul in Pavillion has a total of 3 sections. There's one where it's the take-away style, the middle section is the more casual seating area, and the other one is more like a restaurant seating. We were there around 10:15am and the "casual seating area" was already almost full.  I went for the typical breakfast choice, Eggs Benedict (RM27) that comes with 2 poached eggs on a bed of turkey ham, fresh spinach, radish and toasted brioche topped with Hollandaise sauce. Taste wise, quite authentic. Not too sure about the fresh spinach used as they are quite hard to get hold of and it does make quite a

Nam Chau @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara

Image
I am constantly searching for new places to eat around Kota Damansara area. Places that serves good food that can fill me up but in a price that will not burn a hole in my pocket. Eating in KD can be a bit tricky as the food here can sometimes be overpriced.   Located in Sunway Nexis, Nam Chau is no stranger to all the kopitiam kaki(s) in Ipoh. So if you're having a sudden crave for some white coffee, you don't have to go all the way to Ipoh to have them now!As an "Ipoh Mali" kaki, I had to find out whether does the food here tastes as good and authentic as the one in Ipoh.  By the way... I didn't took any pictures of the restaurant :( I had to try their Ipoh Hor Fun (RM9.90) which arrived less than 5 minutes. The hor fun was silky smooth that it was hard to grip with my chopsticks (a good thing though). I enjoyed the soup a lot that I drank till the last drop! It was sweet and as you can see, there's also the prawn flavoured oil on the surface of

Mak's Chee Authentic Wonton Noodle @ Midvalley

Image
Wonton Mee is always my go-to choice whenever I eat at kopitiams. It's quick, simple and nice. Mak's Chee is one of Hong Kong's famous eateries so when I heard that they had recently opened an outlet in Midvalley, I was beyond excited. My expectations were really high as I've read good reviews about it. My friend and I went there around 6:30pm and to be honest, I wasn't expecting to wait in a queue so when I did, my expectations got even higher. We waited around 10 minutes before being seated.   All the noodles here comes in either small or large. We didn't know how big is the portion for large so we went for the small. When it comes to wonton mee, I prefer eating the dry version as I love the sweetness from the oyster sauce.  I had the Wonton   Dry Noodle with Prawn Roe [S:RM14.90] that comes with wonton hidden at the bottom. I've not tasted prawn roe before so I didn't know what to expect. I find the noodles really dry that they are all cl

Dinner at Lai Po Heen @ Mandarin Oriental

Image
Said to be one of the places that serves the finest Cantonese Chinese dishes, Lai Po Heen at Mandarin Oriental, a 5-star hotel that needs no introduction was our choice of restaurant for that night's family reunion dinner. Easily  one of the most elegant and luxurious Chinese restaurant that I've dine in. As you walk in, you'll see an open kitchen where chefs can be seen showcasing their skills. We started off with one of their highlighted dish, Peking Duck . The duck skin was almost perfect but somehow, I like it crispier and it's meat are tender. A good kick off to wet my appetite. Their Deep Fried Boneless Chicken with Lemon Sauce (RM43) was everyone's favourite that we even ordered another one. This classic Chinese dish that was given a tweak or two had definitely brought my bar for lemon chickens up to the peak! The sauce was the most memorable and had Wow-ed me for a few good seconds.  It has this mixture of mild and robust flavour, hi

Sushi Zento @ Sri Petaling

Image
Sri Petaling is now my go-to place for when I have no idea what to eat as they have a long list of cafes, restaurants, bakeries etc. If you're familiar with this area, then you probably would have seen this Japanese restaurant called Sushi Zento as it is hard to miss. You'll feel like you're at one of the streets in Tokyo just by looking at it.  They really go all out at the interiors. Every corner is brightly lighten. They use a lot of woodwhich makes this whole place very earthy. I personally think that there are too much going on at the first floor as the counter, kitchen, conveyer belt are happening all at once. Plus, the tables downstairs are really close.  We chose to seat upstairs (right picture) as it was quieter and there were no customers seeing that it was on a weekday. The layout upstairs is spacious and they have private rooms too. Tempura Udon (RM20.70) was alright though I find it slightly expensive. Overall, this dish is what it is and there&

Dinner at Birch, DC Mall

Image
Follow my food account @fixingcravings on IG for more daily food review! Known for their burnt cheesecake and egg benedicts, Birch is one of the top brunch spots in town. Besides serving some of the best breakfast food, they do take pride in their dinner dishes too that my friends and I decided to dine there for our reunion dinner. We sat at the non-smoking area (right) which does get really dark after the sun sets. Picture taking is definitely not ideal so you might want to come earlier if you want to have your pictures taken or to get some flat lay shots. As much as I prefer the daylight, the ambiance here at night is really something else. Tea light candles, warm lightings that filled the space, sounds of wine glasses clinking, this really is a great place for a date nights! Oriental Duck Rilettes Tacos (RM26) Soft tacos filled with shredded spice-marinated duck, lettuce, tomato salsa, cucumbers and their oriental thick sauce.  There were 4 of us so one of my f
