Amazing Vegan Food In Penang!! Pinxin Vegan Cuisine

Image
As most of you know, I am plant-based 95% of the time. So when I was thinking what should I focus on in my second episode of Eat What Leh? series on Youtube in Penang, I thought it would be really cool to have a full day of eating as a vegan in Penang.  Finding vegetarian or vegan food in Malaysia is not a big of a problem because us Chinese and Indian are mostly vegetarians. There are many vegetarian economic rice shops that can be found in the streets of Penang and it is also most people's preferred choice as it is really cheap. But I wanted to try something different so I searched up for some vegan restaurants and here are two that I went to.  I really love the baroque inspired interior design in Pin Xin that had definitely been thought through really well.  There are also motivational quotes around the restaurant that definitely did not failed to motivate me to being 100% plant-based.  It worked guys.  L-R: PinXin Nasi Lemak (RM18) , Pr...

IS THIS THE BEST WANTAN MEE IN PJ? Chan SinKee Noodle @ Kota Damansara

Image
Hey! I am finally back with another food review. Had not tried anything that was interesting enough for me to do a full blog on it. Anyway, my mum and I were searching for places to eat and we specifically wanted noodles. The initial plan was to have Chilli Pan Mee because who would say no to that right?! As we were walking there, this shop next door called Chan SinKee Noodle which   was pretty crowded at that moment, caught our attention so we decided to give it a try. Well, I think it's safe to say that this is now my favourite noodle place. No fancy decorations, just a humble set up. Not sure about you but I personally think that places that are less fancy always serves the best food. Well, most of the time.  There are 3 sizes of noodles to choose from. We didn't know how small is the small how big is the big portion so we just went for the smallest one which we were really glad we did because the portion is quite big for a small. They have a variety of wan t...

Go Street Noodle @ Sri Petaling

Image
Go Noodle House has always been my go-to place whenever I'm in the mood for a warm bowl of noodles, especially on rainy days. I recently got to know that they have a sister company called Go Street Noodle and of course, I was really eager to find out what differences do they have and which of this two company is better.   I went to the outlet in Sri Petaling which has just opened recently. I was there just before 12pm and it was already quite pack. Everything from the vibes and interiors in GSN are almost similar, if not, just like GNH. Items on the menu are quite different but there are still a few familiar dishes. What differs GSN from GNH, selection wise is that they serve rice and dry noodles here and has a variety of side dishes to go with the dry noodles.  (@fixingcravings is my own account) Tok Tok Mee (Thick) with Bursting Meat Ball [RM11.90] in Superior Soup I always have the Bursting Meatball whenever I dine at GNH so I had to order this and c...

Hits & Misses at Malaysia Boleh! @ Four Seasons Place KL

Image
I've been to the Malaysia Boleh! food court in Singapore years ago but all that I can remember is that it was quite a hectic dinner, as you would expect from a food court. The rest of the memories are now hazy in the mind.   If you have not heard of or been to Malaysia Boleh! , it is a food court that houses more than 14 stalls of popular local delicacies from different states. There's Penang Laksa, Pudu Fried Chicken, Klang Bak Kut Teh and the list goes on. This is definitely the perfect food spot for both local and tourists as you can try some of Malaysia's famous delicacies all in one space!                                          The Penang Laksa (RM10) was one of the better ones that I've had. The sourness and thickness of the broth was just how I like my laksa to be. This dish just hits all the right spots.   I'm not a fan of Hokkien mee but th...

Nam Chau @ Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara

Image
I am constantly searching for new places to eat around Kota Damansara area. Places that serves good food that can fill me up but in a price that will not burn a hole in my pocket. Eating in KD can be a bit tricky as the food here can sometimes be overpriced.   Located in Sunway Nexis, Nam Chau is no stranger to all the kopitiam kaki(s) in Ipoh. So if you're having a sudden crave for some white coffee, you don't have to go all the way to Ipoh to have them now!As an "Ipoh Mali" kaki, I had to find out whether does the food here tastes as good and authentic as the one in Ipoh.  By the way... I didn't took any pictures of the restaurant :( I had to try their Ipoh Hor Fun (RM9.90) which arrived less than 5 minutes. The hor fun was silky smooth that it was hard to grip with my chopsticks (a good thing though). I enjoyed the soup a lot that I drank till the last drop! It was sweet and as you can see, there's also the prawn flavoured oil on the surface of...

Mak's Chee Authentic Wonton Noodle @ Midvalley

Image
Wonton Mee is always my go-to choice whenever I eat at kopitiams. It's quick, simple and nice. Mak's Chee is one of Hong Kong's famous eateries so when I heard that they had recently opened an outlet in Midvalley, I was beyond excited. My expectations were really high as I've read good reviews about it. My friend and I went there around 6:30pm and to be honest, I wasn't expecting to wait in a queue so when I did, my expectations got even higher. We waited around 10 minutes before being seated.   All the noodles here comes in either small or large. We didn't know how big is the portion for large so we went for the small. When it comes to wonton mee, I prefer eating the dry version as I love the sweetness from the oyster sauce.  I had the Wonton   Dry Noodle with Prawn Roe [S:RM14.90] that comes with wonton hidden at the bottom. I've not tasted prawn roe before so I didn't know what to expect. I find the noodles really dry that they are all cl...

Dinner at Lai Po Heen @ Mandarin Oriental

Image
Said to be one of the places that serves the finest Cantonese Chinese dishes, Lai Po Heen at Mandarin Oriental, a 5-star hotel that needs no introduction was our choice of restaurant for that night's family reunion dinner. Easily  one of the most elegant and luxurious Chinese restaurant that I've dine in. As you walk in, you'll see an open kitchen where chefs can be seen showcasing their skills. We started off with one of their highlighted dish, Peking Duck . The duck skin was almost perfect but somehow, I like it crispier and it's meat are tender. A good kick off to wet my appetite. Their Deep Fried Boneless Chicken with Lemon Sauce (RM43) was everyone's favourite that we even ordered another one. This classic Chinese dish that was given a tweak or two had definitely brought my bar for lemon chickens up to the peak! The sauce was the most memorable and had Wow-ed me for a few good seconds.  It has this mixture of mild and robust flavour, hi...
